Purpose
This instructional article outlines how to set up a custom URL for your Allbound platform.
Introduction
By default, your portal's domain/URL is [companyname].allbound.com. However, as long as you own your desired subdomain, we can help update the URL to fit your company brand
Setup Details and Instructions
The process to set up your custom URL is easy and simple. You will need to work with your Web or IT team to add two CNAME DNS records to your domain through your registrar’s portal. (Namecheap, GoDaddy, etc.). We recommend identifying the team that will help you through this process prior to requesting and update.
The first DNS Record is the CNAME that points your domain to our servers. This will route all traffic to your Allbound portal. The second CNAME is a record to verify that you are the owner of the domain and that you are granting Allbound permission to issue SSL Certificates on your behalf.
Allbound will handle all certificate management and renewal as long as the two DNS records are on record.
How to Request a Custom URL Change
To request a custom URL change, please follow these steps:
- Submit a support ticket that includes your full domain or subdomain.
- The Allbound Support team will provide you with the necessary CNAME records that must be added to your domain's DNS.
- Common custom URL requests often include partners.[companyname].com or partnerportal.[companyname].com.
- Allbound will then initiate the migration of your system to the new domain. It's important to note that the migration process requires some time and involves transforming your data, which includes updating references from the old domain to the new one.
- Allbound typically schedules the migration during periods of lower portal traffic. If you have a specific day or time preference for the migration, please include that information in your domain request.
- It's important to remember that the successful migration is dependent on the completion of the first two steps mentioned above.
To ensure a seamless transition, we kindly request that you notify us at least one business week before your desired go-live date. This advanced notice allows us to better accommodate your custom URL change request.
Troubleshooting
- If your DNS provider prohibits leading underscores in CNAME values, you can remove the underscore from the AWS Certificate Manager provided value and validate your domain without it. For example, the CNAME value _x2.acm-validations.aws can be changed to x2.acm-validations.aws for validation purposes. However, the CNAME name parameter must always begin with a leading underscore
- Some DNS providers (such as Godaddy) automatically add the domain to the end. If that is the case, remove the domain from the end of the record name(host).
- Some customers use Certification Authority Authorization(CAA). For those situations, you will need to add a CAA record with amazonaws.com, amazon.com, amazontrust.com or awstrust.com as the value.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can we customize Allbound with multiple URLs via masking?
You can redirect the domain from URLs, however, we can’t mask it. We recommend discussing with your company's IT team. We can domain mask for only one domain - we can’t do several, it would just have to be a redirect on your side.
